Nelson Mandela and the Elders Use Joomla

E-mail

This weekend millions of people watched the World Cup Final in South Africa. Before the game they saw the surprise appearance of Nelson Mandela, the former South African president who struggled for decades to bring full human rights to all South Africans.

Mandela is also part of The Elders, a group of well respected global leaders. This week the Elders put full their full support behind the Every Human Has Rights campaign. They aim to enact the Universal Declaration of Human Rights which says that “Everyone is entitled to all the rights and freedoms set forth in this Declaration, without distinction of any kind, such as race, colour, sex, language, religion, political or other opinion, national or social origin, property, birth or other status.”

The Elders members include such notables as Desmond Tutu, Mary Robinson, Graça Machel, Ela Bhatt, Jimmy Carter, and Kofi Annan. They hope their support will help ensure the United Nation's Millenium Development Goals are met much more quickly.

The Joomla! website was developed by Civicus, CIVICUS is an international alliance dedicated to strengthening citizen action and civil society throughout the world.

It is rewarding to see Joomla! used to lift up the voices of The Elders in video and print in support of this important and noble purpose. It is a reminder that our contributions to Joomla! can be very important. You are encouraged to visit Every Human has Rights and find a way to take action in the fight against poverty and hunger.
